Church Should Be Simple
I have been reading Simple Church lately and it's a good book. We do make church too complicated. We need to simplify what we do and be willing to cut programs to make the ministry we do more effective. Making disciples is the key. How to do it? Get people to connect with God and each other, grow in their faith and knowledge of God, and then reach out to others in your own community and around the world. That's what makes sense to me. I know there's a lot of opinions on this. This seems basic and sort of "duh" in some ways, but it's so easy to make church about programs - more, more, more! Simple Church = effective church. Any thoughts?

K.I.S.S. (Keep it Simple Stupid), an old engineering acronym that applies to everything. I feel that churches have become too marketing centric. I've felt this way for a long time. When churches focus on marketing people get a feeling of fakeness and that the church's focus is on making money and not creating disciples. I agree with you!
It seems like a lot of churches are trying to "crack the code" of their local area in order to grow instead of staying focused on what God's called them to do.
I've worked at a church that was always trying something new - 40 Days of Purpose, small groups, missions, affinity groups, evangelism teams, Wednesday night service, fellowship food night etc... all it does it wear you out!
I love the fact that every Sunday our church has passionate, modern and original worship followed by rock solid teaching through the Bible.
Here's a great question I love to ask - could you still have church if you just had your worship leader with a guitar and your senior pastor? If not - you're built on gimmicks and not substance and have trained your congregation to crave gimmicks instead of substance.
