Why Do We Love Blogging?

I have been into this whole blogging thing for a couple years now and I have been thinking about why my generation connects with blogging so much. Tons of my friends have started blogs in the last year and I love it. I have never been a good journaler. I would always start a journal and then do about 10 entries each day, then that would turn to every few days, then once a week, and then nothing. But I keep blogging for some reason. I think that it has to be the connectedness to other people.

I like to write down my thoughts and that is helpful for me, but I love to write down my thoughts and hear what people have to say about it. The genius of blogs isn't about lots of people reading them - the genius is the "comments" section. I love comments. I wish I could have "comments" sections of other parts of life - preaching (most the time), meetings, driving, sports, etc.

Someone I know had someone say that they thought blogging was narcissistic. I vehemently disagree. It's not about me. It's about community and interaction. That's why I try to get all my friends to start blogs. That just makes the community even better.

Why do you love blogging?

I totally agree. I LOVE looking at my friendsw blogs because our lives are SO busy, I don't have time to catch up with everyone all the time; especially to hear what they're thinking, especially about the really important stuff. It's too bad we don't have the time but there it is.
I can also process things so much better if I get them "out there", it helps me sort my thoughts.
And, I always know I will get a laugh about something you write, so that's always fun, too... ;o)

I've always been better at writing my thoughts out than talking through them with someone. I'm not so sure my wife loves that about me, but it's a part of how I'm made. As a recent blog convert, I echo everything you wrote from my limited perspective. Especially, the comments thing. It's like an instant addiction in a much better way than most other things online ;0

oh yeah, thanks for commenting on my blog Eric. Help feed the addiction.

I'm not ready to say I love blogging but I am liking it more & more. It's growing on me. It's so fun to hear peoples random thoughts and also to see what happens to people like Victor who turns it into a major competition and determines to become ruler of the blogosphere. Comments are fuel for me too and I'm running a bit low, if you know what I mean! But hey, it's not about me right...

i have so many family and friends that live out of town. it is a great way to stay in touch. i can read their blog, see photos of the kids, and know a little bit of what is happening in their lives on a weekly basis. also, i have such a hard time keeping up with things, with the pace of life and with my family and commitments. many times keeping in touch is on the backburner. but blogging is a way i can post and share (and read their posts and sharing) without having to pick up the phone and call each friend separately, which is overwhelming and takes considerably more time.

Eric, i think you have a great balance between thought, random, family and faith on your blog. that is one thing i dig about your blog as opposed to others i read.
